There are times when our own minds, are the impetus to our ruin, or salvation. Words wave magic wands of tangible pleasure, and pain across our psyche. The dawn of our past is stalled by bright starry discontent. What ifs and 'whys' of yesterday impede the dawn of our new days. The kaleidoscopes of our dreams exaggerate the facts, and our reality is like looking at a cartoon upside down in our dad’s chair. We get drunk, while the blood rushes to our head, and our youthful vigor allows us to stay that way for some time.

Love creeps into our lives, and for some “makes” it all better. The humdrum tasks requiring true effort to perfect us, become secondary. For some our partners are that escape. We can absorb ourselves in their lives, forgetting our own. For others, weakened by the ghosts of our past, our partners abuse is familiar and warm, like a candle flame is to a moth.

The creativity of our imagination can be a tool to help or hurt us. When things are right we use it to build. When things are wrong we use it to bury.

The bottom line is your mind is yours. If you center yourself, and allow what you know is healthy to come into focus, you can and will truly heal.

I would have been crushed emotionally, and spiritually, had I not realized who was in control of me the other day. I would have sank into icy blackness, that would make the LaBrea Tar Pits seem as bright as the morning sun. “My” ex, found a new love in 5 days, and bedded him. The fact is she was never mine. We can only be ours. Truth be told, no one owns you. Logic stated constantly to run, save myself. Never talk to her, never see her, and it will all go away with time. But my baggage was a carry on. The memory was too sweet to leave on the doorstep of yesterday. Instinct railed against that, and nobility roared to fight on for belief.

All concepts are rooted in my mind though. I am in control of that engine of sorrow, or happiness. My goodness refuses to be bitter, my sarcasm begets only rubbish. She has her own life to live, a life I shared for a brief year. In that time we found one thing more sacred than the diamond I once put on her finger.

We found a friendship. That was meant to be. I love myself no matter what, and refuse to ignore that kind of love. It is true. The best promise I ever made to her was to always allow her to be herself. In doing so, I allowed me to be me, and keep a promise I knew I could. I was always strong enough to keep that promise, and can be happy at the same time.

Make a promise to yourself that you can keep. Learn to realize, that no chemical, no drug, no THOUGHT, and least of all no person, can keep you down.

Only you do. As water can flow and adjust its course, so can our thinking. Our thoughts can flow into every nook of happiness we allow ourselves to find. Our minds are the only Knights that can slay the Dragons of our sadness.
